Gamers around the world are already gearing up in excitement for the new Elden Ring DLC release that is expected to land within the next year.
Information on the first paid Elden Ring DLC, titled Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, has been scarce so far. Some fans have been able to gather a surprising amount of information about the new Elden Ring DLC release, however, and there’s a lot to be excited about.
What’s going to be in the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC?
Fans have had to rely largely on conjecture in trying to work out what will be included in the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, but the information gathered thus far does point to a few key features.
The new content is likely to prominently feature the character Miquella, who may be the primary antagonist in the expanded game content. Miquella is notably the sibling of Malenia, a boss character from Elden Ring who referred to herself as the “Blade of Miquella.”
Malenia became infamous in the original game as arguably its most difficult boss. Widespread memes were based around the challenge posed by her fight, and she remains likely the most recognizable character in the game. The idea of doing battle with her sibling likely has many gamers shaking in their boots already.
This context is drawn from the official artwork released for Shadow of the Erdtree, which shows a character that looks very much like Miquella riding on horseback in the game’s open world. There’s no confirmation of the actual identity of the character, but Miquella seems the most likely option.
The horse is also notable, though fans are still trying to understand the nature of its inclusion. Elden Ring does feature horseback riding, as the player is gifted with the magical horse Torrent early on. Torrent helps players explore the game’s vast world more expeditiously, and it’s possible that Torrent, or other horses, could play an even larger role in the new Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.
When is the new Elden Ring DLC coming out?
There’s no official word yet on when the new Elden Ring DLC is coming out, but reports indicate that the Elden Ring DLC release date is likely to fall within late 2023 or early 2024. This timing remains unofficial, however, and until an official announcement is made by developer FromSoftware, it’s hard to say for sure what the timing might be.
It’s also possible that there won’t be only one paid DLC release for the game. FromSoftware has an established history of producing a steady stream of additional content for its games, with multiple free updates already having shipped for Elden Ring. Given the immense popularity of the game, it wouldn’t be a surprise if FromSoftware brought even more new DLC content to the game following the release of Shadow of the Erdtree.
No matter the exact timing, anticipation will remain high for the new content being added to what is one of the highest-rated and best-received games in recent memory.
