Xbox kicked off 2026 with a confident showing at its fourth annual Developer Direct. With the brand celebrating its 25th anniversary, this showcase focused on clear updates, real gameplay, and a few genuine surprises.
Xbox Developer Direct 2026
Developer Direct opened strong with Forza Horizon 6. This time, Playground Games is taking the series to Japan for the first time. Players begin as tourists and race their way up across cities, countryside, and events inspired by Japanese car culture. Over 550 cars will be available at launch, including parked aftermarket finds in the open world. Forza Horizon 6 launches on 19 May 2026, with Deluxe Edition players getting early access from 15 May. A PlayStation 5 release is planned later in 2026.

Next was Beast of Reincarnation from Game Freak. Set in a post-apocalyptic Japan, the game follows Emma the Sealer and her dog Koo. The new gameplay footage highlighted fast combat, strange creatures, and Emma’s unique abilities. It arrives this summer on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC, with day-one access on Game Pass.

The surprise reveal was Kiln from Double Fine. It is an online multiplayer pottery party brawler, and yes, it looks as chaotic as it sounds. The game launches in spring 2026, with a closed beta planned.
The show closed with a deeper look at Fable. Playground Games confirmed that player choices will shape how Albion reacts to you. Fable is set to launch in fall 2026 on Xbox, PlayStation 5, and PC.
