T-FORCE G70 PRO SSD review: Speedy, sleek, and slightly scorched

There’s a fine line between affordable performance and budget corner-cutting. But every now and then, something drops into that sweet spot — not too flashy, not too compromised, just fast, efficient, and surprisingly well-balanced. The T-FORCE G70 PRO SSD from TEAMGROUP manages to do exactly that, delivering PCIe 4.0 speeds that left me genuinely impressed… and occasionally a little sweaty.

The G70 PRO claimed read speeds of up to 7,123MB/s and write speeds pushing 6,778MB/s. Bold numbers for a drive hovering under the £100 mark for the 1TB model.

So, naturally, I chucked it straight into a build I’d been tinkering with — an AMD Ryzen rig used mostly for content creation, gaming, and increasingly, testing out Tilt haul flip ideas (don’t judge). Setup was a breeze, no drama. This particular version of the T-FORCE G70 PRO came with the pre-installed heatsink, which already looked beefier than most “budget” drives tend to offer.

Blazing fast and breezy installs

First boot-up post-install and file transfers were instantly miles ahead of what I’d been using before. Games like Cyberpunk 2077 loaded like they’d had a double espresso, and installing chunky Steam updates didn’t bring my entire system to its knees. Moving hundreds of gigabytes of video files for editing work? Smooth. The included DRAM and large SLC cache did a lot of the heavy lifting here, and you can absolutely feel it when you’re asking this SSD to sprint.

Even better — I shoved the T-FORCE G70 PRO into a PS5 for a laugh, just to see how it held up with Sony’s famously picky expansion slot. No issues. It was recognised straight away, the speeds held up brilliantly during back-to-back game installs, and it handled Horizon Forbidden West with zero stutters or slowdown.

But my PC’s lungs are on fire

Now, here’s where things get toasty. This thing runs hot. Not dangerous, not “going to fry your motherboard” hot, but “don’t touch the heatsink after heavy use” hot. I saw the T-FORCE G70 PRO creeping up to the low 80s Celsius during sustained benchmark tests, and while there was no major throttling, I did find myself keeping an eye on airflow just in case. In a well-ventilated case or a PS5 with reasonable usage, you’re probably fine — just don’t expect it to chill under pressure.

Also, while the claimed speeds are technically accurate, real-world tests (and, let’s face it, how most of us actually use our PCs) don’t always hit those upper limits. It still beats a lot of similarly priced drives, but if you’re expecting it to sit at 7,000MB/s 24/7, dial those expectations down just a notch.

Overall verdict on the T-FORCE G70 PRO

The TEAMGROUP T-FORCE G70 PRO is one of those rare SSDs that doesn’t feel like it’s making excuses. It promises top-tier PCIe 4.0 speeds and largely delivers. Sure, it runs a little hot and occasionally misses its theoretical peaks, but for the money? It’s hard to argue with the performance-per-pound ratio here.

Whether you’re upgrading a PC, slotting it into a PS5, or just sick of watching a spinning circle while your game loads, this drive is a top pick. Just make sure your case has decent airflow — or get ready to blow the dust out of your fans a little more often.

Fast, functional, and fiery. It’s not the flashiest SSD around, but it’s a real workhorse – and one I’d happily recommend for most use cases.
