Safe In Our World, the charity championing mental health within the games industry, has announced a partnership with Peregrine Coast Press to launch a unique video games mental health journal. The journal, entitled ‘Sidekick’, will make its debut at Develop:Brighton this year, during a dedicated launch party on Tuesday, July 11 from 11:30 am-1:30 pm, sponsored by Uplift Games.
‘Sidekick: the video games mental health journal’ aims to provide gamers and industry professionals with essential tools and resources for promoting mental well-being. Drawing inspiration from beloved video games, the journal encompasses 140 pages of mental-health-related activities, prompts, and journaling spaces. It promises a safe and nurturing space for readers to reflect and practice self-care.
The Safe In Our World team expressed their gratitude to Sidekick’s sponsors, Uplift Games, journal designer Eryk Sawicki, and contributing illustrators Megan Dobbyn and Airship Interactive’s Tristan McGuire, all instrumental in bringing the journal to fruition.

Rosie Taylor, Content and Community Manager at Safe In Our World, shared her enthusiasm for the project, “We’ve been keen to produce a tangible resource to support the gaming community for some time. Studies suggest that journaling can have a positive impact on mental health, so this seemed like the ideal, low-pressure method to encourage people to consider their mental well-being and engage in self-care.”
Attendees of the journal launch event will have the opportunity to secure their copies of ‘Sidekick’, enjoy the interactive resources within, and explore a calm, creative space amidst the hubbub of Develop:Brighton. Complete with tea, coffee, lunch, and self-care goody bags, the Sidekick launch event promises to provide a respite for guests during the busy event.
