PlayStation’s PC gaming push earned $300M in three years, but the era may already be over

Sony’s decision to bring PlayStation exclusives to PC quietly became a $300 million business, but it took three years to get there, and the initiative may already be winding down.

That revenue figure comes from the LinkedIn profile of Jerry Liu, a former PC Planner and Insights Manager at PlayStation between January 2021 and June 2023. Liu credits himself with growing the division’s net revenue from zero to $300 million, while also pushing leadership toward a more aggressive pricing strategy that lifted gross revenue by a further 25%. He also helped identify underutilised PS catalog titles worth bringing over to PC, a job that turned out to be pretty lucrative.

For context, though, PS4 and PS5 software sales hit that same $300 million milestone in a single year. PC was a slow burn by comparison.

The timing is a bit awkward for PlayStation

Here’s the thing: just as this data surfaces, PlayStation looks to be cooling on the whole idea. Reports from March suggest Sony has shelved plans to bring Ghost of Yotei and other titles to Steam.

That’s a notable shift. Over the past six years, ports like God of War, Returnal, Spider-Man, and the Horizon series have all performed well on PC. Whether Sony’s pulling back for strategic reasons or something more internal remains unclear.

For now, the PC library stays, but its future looks shakier than ever.
