SpecialEffect’s annual One Special Day campaign has smashed records once again, with the games industry pulling together to raise more than £760,000 for the charity in October. Over 65 partners from across the global games scene took part, marking the highest total in the event’s ten-year history.

The campaign, built around support from mobile and PC game sales, studio-led fundraising events, and the first-ever One Special Walk across London, continues to be one of the most important lifelines for SpecialEffect. The charity uses these funds to help people with physical disabilities play video games through bespoke controller setups, accessibility support, and wider industry guidance.

SpecialEffect founder and CEO Dr Mick Donegan said the team were “truly overwhelmed” by the generosity shown this year:

“As demand for our services continues to rise, this remarkable contribution will play a vital role in helping us share the joy of gaming with thousands of people with physical disabilities — and in supporting developers worldwide to make their games accessible to everyone.”

The 2025 total represents roughly a quarter of the charity’s annual operating needs, making this year’s One Special Day a major win not only for SpecialEffect but also for the wider movement toward accessible gaming.

When is the next One Special Day?

Studios and publishers wanting to get involved next year won’t have to wait long. One Special Day 2026 takes place on Friday, 2 October, with the charity already preparing for the next round of fundraising. Anyone interested can reach out via the contacts on the official website.
