Elden Ring Nightreign’s next update has been pushed back by 24 hours following tsunami warnings in Japan. Patch 1.02, which adds a new two-player Duos mode, will now go live on July 31 at 1 AM PT / 4 AM ET.

The delay comes after a major earthquake struck near Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula, prompting evacuation orders across Japan’s eastern coast. Japan’s Meteorological Agency confirmed that a tsunami wave of 4.3 feet had reached Iwate prefecture in the north, according to a report from the BBC.

The main feature in patch 1.02 is the introduction of Duos mode. While Nightreign was originally built around three-player squads, the PC community quickly embraced unofficial two-player mods. With this patch, FromSoftware is making the mode official, allowing pairs to take on the game’s challenges without needing a third.

Game director Junya Ishizaki said the idea of a two-player mode had been overlooked during development, but confirmed the team began working on it after seeing how popular the concept became post-launch.

So far, Nightreign has sold over 5 million copies and hit a peak of 313,593 concurrent players on Steam, according to SteamDB. The original Elden Ring has now surpassed 30 million copies sold globally.

FromSoftware’s next major release is The Duskbloods, which is in development for the Switch 2.
