Monster Hunter Wilds Title Update 2 review: Delivering brutal battles with Lagiacrus & Seregios

It’s really a case of “be careful what you ask for” with Title Update 2, isn’t it? Monster Hunter Wilds has made a lot of noise since its release. Difficulty is a core sentiment shared with players.

The story content was a pretty straightforward affair. Veteran hunters are not getting the challenge they wanted. Followed by tempered and arch-tempered monsters that have ramped things up a bit. I’ll say right now, tempered Mizutsune absolutely ruined me, and difficulty hasn’t been a complaint of mine.

Well, no Title Update 2 is here, and with it comes more of a challenge. Lagiacrus and Seregios are here, and they’re not interested in taking any prisoners.

I’ve done them both solo, just their base, story versions, and I’ve been slapped about a little bit. Moreso by Lagiacrus, who really gave me a kicking. But I really enjoyed both of these hunts, and now I’m grinding them out for gear.

Lagiacrus returns

My first encounter with a Tempered Lagiacrus tells the whole story. Granted, it was my first hunt in a few weeks, and I wasn’t 100% comfortable. But I can’t blame that on my struggle.

Title update 2 did nerf my go-to Sword and Shield slide attack a little, so shaking off my reliance on that was needed, too. But Lagiacrus would have been fine taking me on at my peak.

On the ground, I was getting caught in his lightning AOE attacks regularly. Unable to bail quickly enough. But then, we went… underwater?

This is where Lagi truly shines—it’s a uniquely perilous arena where your movement is restricted, and the leviathan is in its element. You’re swimming, able to use the clutch claw to grab onto it. Or pulling down environmental attacks. Largely trying to keep out of the way and capitalise on small openings.

It’s tough. Completely upending the hunting experience and giving something new. I wasn’t prepared, but I managed to get out of it and ultimately make the capture.

I can’t say I didn’t cart a couple of times. Something which I hate doing. But between the area of effect, the power and the movement. Lagiacrus isn’t an easy hunt. It will be as I grind it out now and learn movements and attacks. But what a rush.

Title Update 2 has been delivered here, for sure.

Seregios redefined

If you thought you knew Seregios—affectionately nicknamed “Steve” by the community—from his appearance in Monster Hunter Rise, think again. The version unleashed in Wilds Title Update 2 is on a completely different level of ferocity. Its razor-sharp talons inflict the dreaded bleeding status while dishing out catastrophic damage.

My first hunt against Seregios was a whirlwind of chaos. I’d say Steve feels much more like a standard monster hunt. With my forgotten skills back and my reactions heightened after the slapping about from Lagi.

But a chain of attacks that always seemed to be one more than I expected or remembered saw me get put on my back often. This was arguably the more satisfying hunt of the two, for me.

That ranged projectile attack was thrown every time. I’ve a lot to learn, and I’m very excited to hit some tempered hunts, too.

Title Update 2 is giving us some of the good stuff, for sure.

Happy with the endgame?

Title Update 2 is a great free update in terms of extra monsters, and it’s brought plenty of changes, too.

The question is, with the roadmap of additional events and content. Will this be enough to keep people happy?

Probably not.

If you keep on top of the quests and events, you can get ahead of everything pretty quickly. So those more hardcore players will likely drop off again and start complaining.

For me, there’s a decent ramp-up of challenge, and there’s plenty to go at for a casual player. I’d love some more stuff to get stuck into, too, but there are other games, and I like to come back and get excited again. So this cadence works for me.

8-star quests for these two monsters are great, but on paper, they trivialise all other monsters in the game. Although with the re-release of Arch-Tempered Ray Dau, and well, Tempered Mizutsune will forever be a mountain for me to climb.

The challenge is here, but people will crave more. Title Update 2 is a great step forward, though, as we wait for Master Rank.

Looking ahead to Title Update 3

With new monsters and layered weapons, Title Update 2 has made the game feel more feature-complete. Capcom has taken once-elusive creatures and transformed them into unforgettable, full-fledged battles that will be remembered by veterans and newcomers alike.

The only question left is: where do we go from here? The bar has been set incredibly high. Now, the speculation for Title Update 3 begins. Will we see the return of a massive siege monster, or perhaps the grand appearance of a new Elder Dragon?

What are you hoping to see next?
