A new hands-on event in Shanghai has given fresh insight into Marathon. Bungie invited Chinese media to try the latest build. It is the first time the game has been shown outside North America, and the feedback is quite interesting. If you haven’t watched its trailer yet, you can give it a look below.

One clear change is the story’s focus. The tutorial now explains factions better. Characters feel easier to understand. There are also links to older Marathon lore, especially through Dr. Strauss, who connects several narrative threads.

The PvE side sounds challenging. Enemies keep calling backup, and maps are full of hazards like gas vents, turrets, and mines. Resources are limited, too. Some players said healing and shields felt expensive, so rushing into fights often led to losses. Careful play seems more rewarding.
Visually, the game looks darker than before. The mood feels closer to other classic studio titles. The interface has improved, though some testers said it still needs getting used to.
Gunplay impressions remain strong. That is expected from Bungie. There are 28 weapons so far, plus skins, charms, and stickers tied to challenges.
Seasons will reset progress each time. The studio calls it a roguelike journey, but cosmetics will stay.

Marathon launches on 5 March on PC, PS5, and Xbox. Players will soon decide if these changes work.
