Hollow Knight: Silksong is proving unstoppable. Barely weeks after launch, it has already sold more than 4.2 million copies across platforms, with downloads on Game Pass pushing the player count even higher.
According to GameDiscoverCo, Steam leads the charge with around 3.2 million sales. PlayStation 4/5 and Switch 1/2 are estimated at 500,000 each. Xbox numbers remain unclear, but an extra 1.5 million players have jumped in via Game Pass. That means Silksong is already closing in on the five million mark in total reach.

Silksong boosts the original Hollow Knight
Steam figures from Alinea Analytics underline the hype. Between September 7–13, Borderlands 4 took the top spot with 749,000 sales. It followed closely at 530,000. Even more impressive, the original Hollow Knight surged back into the top charts with 205,000 sales that week. That’s its third straight week over 200,000, despite already moving 15 million copies since release.
Not everything has been smooth. Jonathan Jacques-Belletête, creative director of Hell is Us, criticised Team Cherry for announcing Silksong’s release only two weeks in advance, clashing with his game’s September 4 date. Players have also debated difficulty, prompting both community mods and official patches to soften the challenge.
Even with the bumps, Silksong is one of the year’s biggest launches, and it shows no signs of slowing.
