The Game Awards 2025 ended with a surprise: Highguard. This PvP raid shooter comes from Respawn alumni now at Wildlight Entertainment.

Highguard looks wild. Tons of powers, fast combat, and you can shoot enemies while riding a horse. A horseback shooter, something you didn’t know you needed.
Players take on the role of Wardens, arcane gunslingers fighting for control of a mythical continent. Battle rival crews for the Shieldbreaker, then raid and destroy enemy bases to claim territory.
The Steam page is live, with a simple description hinting at the chaos to come.
The game launches on PC, Xbox, and PS5 on January 26, 2026. It will be free to play.
With its bold ideas, it could be the next breakout indie shooter. We’ll see if it lives up to the hype.
