Game of Thrones: Kingsroad launches May 21 with new content, better balance, and global rollout

Game of Thrones: Kingsroad is officially marching out of Early Access and into full release on May 21, bringing its free-to-play blend of online action, RPG, and adventure gameplay to PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, Windows Launcher) and mobile devices (Android and iOS)—with one notable exception: Asia will have to wait until later this year for the rollout.

Developed by Netmarble, Kingsroad has been building momentum since its Early Access debut on March 26, and the devs haven’t been sitting idle. They’ve been watching, tweaking, and reshaping the game based on heaps of player feedback, and now it’s nearly ready for the full experience, packed with updated systems, improved balance, and a whole new region of Westeros.

What’s new in the full launch?

First off, let’s talk field bosses. These multiplayer encounters were originally spawning a bit too often, and while that meant more chances to fight Drogon and other titans, it also meant fewer players were grouping up at the same time. That’s getting a rework. Netmarble is cutting back how often bosses appear, which should lead to tighter matchmaking and more satisfying battles. And yes, if this change doesn’t work out, they’ve promised to keep adjusting based on feedback.

The Game of Thrones devs are also tackling some other big issues before launch:

  • RP system overhaul: RP (the energy-like resource) was running out too quickly in Early Access, leaving players with not much to do. Netmarble heard that loud and clear. They’re boosting RP generation and adding more things to do once your RP is used up, like new exploration challenges and co-op content.
  • New regions: Players have already trekked through the North, wandered the Reach, and snuck through the Red Keep. Next up? The Stormlands, ruled by Stannis Baratheon. This region hasn’t had much spotlight in the books or show, but it’s getting a gritty, atmospheric makeover here—complete with storms, politics, and religious tension.
  • Narrative expansion: The next story arc is leaning into darker territory, exploring the impact of forced religious conversion in a medieval world. That’s the kind of raw, world-building drama that Game of Thrones fans thrive on.

Launch rewards and language support

If you jumped in during Early Access with a Founder’s Pack, Netmarble hasn’t forgotten you. Expect exclusive costumes for all classes and additional launch rewards as thanks for helping shape the game.

Also, there’s great news for international fans: Portuguese and Turkish language support is coming at launch, with more to be added later down the road.

Built for players, not paywalls

While Game of Thrones: Kingsroad does include optional purchases, Netmarble insists that the game has been designed so you can enjoy everything without spending a penny. Cosmetics and boosts are there, but they’re non-essential; the focus is on making gameplay rewarding no matter how you play.

A game shaped by its community

One of the best things about Game of Thrones: Kingsroad so far is how transparent and involved the dev team has been. Game Director Hyunil Jang laid out their roadmap in a heartfelt letter to players, emphasising their commitment to communication, bug-fixing, and polish—even after launch. “Our goal is to bring the entirety of Westeros to life,” Jang wrote, and it genuinely feels like they mean it.

The team of Game of Thrones knows the road ahead won’t be perfect, but they’re pledging to keep improving—and most importantly, to keep listening.
