EA’s long-rumoured open-world plans for EA FC 27 are starting to feel very real.

A fresh trademark filing has revealed what this new mode could be called, and it lines up neatly with what has been leaking for months.

EA FC 27 open-world mode FC The Grounds

As spotted by Matheus Gamer on X via FGZ, EA Sports registered the trademark FC The Grounds on January 23, 2026. The listing appeared on Justia Trademarks and includes details about the branding tied to the name.

Talk of an open world in EA FC 27 has been building for a while. In November 2025, leaked footage showed players roaming a shared hub, with clear similarities to NBA 2K’s neighbourhood-style setup.

FGZ later backed this up with an exclusive report, claiming the mode will feature large explorable areas called Districts. Each District is said to be inspired by a different footballing nation, giving the world its own identity and atmosphere.

With EA Sports typically launching new EA FC games in September, EA FC 27 is likely not far off. If FC The Grounds is part of the plan, an official announcement should arrive sooner rather than later.
