IGN has dropped a brand-new 13-minute gameplay video for Crimson Desert, and it’s a serious look at what Pearl Abyss has been building. The footage highlights exploration, smooth movement, and real-time combat. We even get a boss fight with Cassius Morten of the Drunken Black Bears in the Calphade region, led by the main character, Greymane Kliff.

What’s interesting is how far this project has shifted. Crimson Desert was once an MMORPG. During development, Pearl Abyss scrapped that idea and made it a single-player experience. Honestly, that feels like the right move.

The big draw here is combat. It looks fast, weighty, and more forgiving than Dark Souls or Elden Ring. That means players who want tough but not punishing battles will find a good fit. Early previews back this up, with critics praising the combat system across the board.
On the technical side, things are looking sharp. Pearl Abyss is pushing FFT Ocean simulation for water, full ray tracing, volumetric fog, GPU-based cloth and hair, plus interactive vegetation. Even better, the PC build shown off was smooth with no stutters. DLSS 4 with Multi-Frame Generation will also be ready at launch.
Pearl Abyss has confirmed Crimson Desert is aiming for a Q1 2026 release. With the mix of tech wizardry and strong combat design, this might be one of the most ambitious RPGs we’ve seen in years.
