2K and Gearbox Software just dropped a 20-minute Borderlands 4 deep dive at the PlayStation State of Play, giving fans a first look at two new Vault Hunters, a chaotic planet called Kairos, and a much deeper gear system.
Meet the new Vault Hunters
- Vex the Siren uses deadly shadow clones and powerful magic to tear through enemies.
- Rafa the Exo-Soldier, a former Tediore trooper, fights in a custom exo-suit that can digistruct weapons on the fly.
Both offer unique playstyles built on the most advanced skill trees in Borderlands history.

Welcome to Kairos – and the Timekeeper
Borderlands 4 unfolds on Kairos, a planet ruled by the Timekeeper, a villain using cybernetic control and synthetic soldiers to dominate its people. Across four massive regions, players will battle through The Order’s forces, meet new allies, and build a resistance.
Loot and co-op get a serious upgrade
The new gameplay trailer showed off the blacksite Terminus Range and revealed:
- A Licensed Parts system that lets you mix manufacturers in one weapon.
- A new Enhancements slot to boost guns based on their brand.
- Rechargeable Ordnance for grenades and heavy weapons.
- Rep Kits for healing and buffs in combat.
Co-op also gets a boost with party syncing, instanced loot, level scaling, and individual difficulty, designed to keep the squad together, no matter your progress.

Borderlands 4 release date and platforms
Borderlands 4 launches 12 September 2025 on PS5, Xbox, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, with a Switch 2 version coming later.
