Black Ops Royale is bringing old-school chaos back to Warzone next week

Activision is clearly not done experimenting with Warzone. Starting March 13, 2026, Black Ops Royale arrives inside Call of Duty: Warzone, and it feels like a deliberate step backwards, in a good way.

Before Warzone became a giant in 2020, battle royale in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 came through Blackout. Now, Black Ops Royale is reviving that formula with a sharper, modern edge. No custom loadouts. No Gulag second chances. No Buy Stations. You drop in and deal with what you find.

Black Ops Royale strips Warzone back to basics

This mode removes many of Warzone’s safety nets. You wingsuit onto Avalon’s huge map, loot pre-built weapon archetypes from Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, and upgrade them through rarity tiers. It’s survival first, strategy second.

You can carry two equipment pieces, mixing tools like Grapple Hooks or Sensor Darts. Perks return too, but now sit in five flexible, consumable slots instead of fixed ones.

It’s a bold move. Warzone has leaned heavily into systems and second chances. Black Ops Royale cuts that away.
