Former BioWare executive producer Mark Darrah has revealed that the studio once pitched a Dragon Age trilogy remaster, but EA refused to finance it. All of this was discussed in an interview on the MrMattyPlays YouTube channel. You can check it out below.
Speaking to MrMattyPlays, Darrah said the idea was to rebrand the first three games as the “Champion’s Trilogy” and give them the same treatment as Mass Effect Legendary Edition. The plan was to remaster, not remake, and possibly include Veilguard in the package.
Dragon Age remaster plans stalled
Darrah also explained that while Mass Effect was easier to remaster, Dragon Age posed bigger challenges due to its technical differences. He also noted EA’s reluctance toward remasters, despite their proven commercial success.

Darrah said, “EA has said publicly they’re kind of against remasters, it’s strange for a publicly traded company to be against free money, but they seem to be against it.”
At one point, BioWare considered outsourcing a remake of Dragon Age: Origins to a talented modding studio. However, EA reportedly told the team to fund it using their existing budget.
The project never moved forward, with resources tied up in other developments.
Veilguard was released in October 2024 and received decent critical scores but failed to win over most players, reflected in its low Steam ratings.
