The Age of Empires series is making its way to PlayStation 5, breaking the long-standing tradition of being a PC-first franchise. The developers have confirmed that Age of Mythology: Retold and Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition will both be landing on Sony’s console, following in the footsteps of other Microsoft titles like Forza Horizon 5.
What’s coming to PlayStation?
First up, Age of Mythology: Retold will arrive on PlayStation 5 alongside its first major expansion, Immortal Pillars, on 4th March. This expansion introduces the Chinese pantheon, new myth units, fresh maps, and additional gameplay features. If you’re eager to jump in, pre-orders are live now, and anyone who owns the Premium Edition will get Immortal Pillars automatically at launch.
Meanwhile, Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition is set to release on PlayStation 5 later this spring. Both games will feature full content parity across all platforms, meaning no missing features or modes, plus cross-play support, so you can battle against players on different devices.

More Age of Empires expansions on the way!
Not stopping there, Age of Empires IV is getting two new DLC packs in 2025. The first, Knights of Cross and Rose, is set to arrive this spring, adding two history-inspired armies and a brand-new solo experience. More details about the second DLC will drop later in the year, likely after the first expansion has landed.
And for the mobile players, Age of Empires Mobile has some big updates lined up for February. A new campaign called Battle of Dawn and a fresh event, Stellar Glory, will bring new challenges. There’s also a Valentine’s Day event featuring special cosmetics and three themed events centred around Princess Josephine’s Treasure Hunt.
