Ubisoft delays Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake, release pushed back

Ubisoft has confirmed fresh delays as part of a wider restructuring, and it looks like Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is one of the games caught in the slowdown.

Earlier today, Ubisoft published a new document outlining its internal shake-up. The company is moving to a “Creative Houses” structure, aimed at improving focus and long-term quality. Alongside that came bad news. Layoffs were confirmed. Several projects were cancelled. And at least one major game has been pushed back.

Assassin's Creed: Black Flag

Black Flag gets extra time for quality

That game appears to be the Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remake. In the document, Ubisoft said it is giving extra development time to seven games to meet “enhanced quality benchmarks”. One of those titles was described as unannounced, originally planned for FY26, and now delayed to FY27.

Based on what we know, Black Flag fits that description perfectly. Reports from last year claimed the remake was targeting a March release, before the end of FY26. The game is still unannounced, which lines up with today’s statement.

If the shift is a full financial year, the remake could now be up to a year away. A late spring or early summer release in FY27 is possible, but nothing is confirmed.

The delay comes alongside the cancellation of three new IPs and an unrevealed mobile game. For Ubisoft, it’s another tough chapter in an already rough period.
