Atari and Ilex Games have confirmed that Adventure of Samsara, a side-scrolling Metroidvania, will release on 4th September. It’s coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox, PS4, Switch, and PC via Steam and GOG.
This isn’t a remake or sequel. It’s a spiritual successor to Atari 2600’s Adventure. The classic spirit is still there: exploration, secrets, and a world that feels alive, but Samsara is taking it to a much bigger stage.
You’ll play as the Solar Champion. A long-dead Plutonian was brought back to life by the Sun. Your mission is to reactivate an ancient interdimensional fortress and restore balance to the multiverse. Simple enough, right?

Classic gameplay with a modern twist
The game blends sharp 2D pixel art with a twisting narrative about death, rebirth, and memories. It’s a connected world where each biome hides new abilities, mutant bosses, and layers of cosmic lore. You’ll travel through frozen wastelands, grim industrial labs, and more, ten biomes in total.
Every area is packed with hidden upgrades and brutal hazards. Exploration is the heart of the game. You’ll need to search every corner to boost your stats and load augments to enhance your skills.

And for those who know the original Adventure, keep your eyes open. Easter eggs, familiar enemies, and nostalgic structures are scattered throughout. They’re not in your face. You’ll have to earn those nods.
Adventure of Samsara is a throwback, but it’s not stuck in the past. It’s classic gameplay with modern touches, so you should get ready for a fresh spin on a true gaming legend this September.
