8BitDo has launched a new limited edition keyboard called the Retro 68 AP50 keyboard, and it looks like a clean throwback to classic Apple II computers. This release celebrates Apple’s 50th anniversary and brings a simple beige and brown colour style that many old-school users will recognise instantly.

The AP50 keyboard comes with a compact 68-key layout, which saves desk space while still keeping the main keys easy to use. It uses a gasket mount design, which helps make typing feel softer and quieter. The full aluminium build adds a premium touch, but it also makes the keyboard quite heavy at 2.2 kg. This gives it a strong and solid feel on the desk.

For switches, 8BitDo has used Kailh BOX Ice Cream Pro Max. The PCB is hot-swappable, so users can easily change switches without any soldering. RGB lighting is also included, and users can customise it through the company’s software or directly from the keyboard.

8BitDo AP50 keyboard tri-mode connectivity
The AP50 keyboard supports three connection modes: wired USB, 2.4GHz wireless, and Bluetooth LE. It works with macOS, Windows, and Android devices, making it flexible for different setups. The keyboard packs a large 6500 mAh battery, which can last up to 300 hours, though it takes around 9 hours to fully charge.
8BitDo also includes a set of Wireless Dual Super Buttons in the box, along with a 2.4GHz adapter and USB cable. With a price of $499.99, this keyboard is clearly made for collectors and enthusiasts who enjoy both design and performance, rather than budget buyers.
