Warhorse Studios might be heading to Middle-earth. A fresh wave of speculation suggests the Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 developer might be the studio behind a previously reported Lord of the Rings project.
What’s been claimed about The Lord of the Rings game
A new LOTR game was reported in late 2025, a third-person, open-world action title in the vein of Hogwarts Legacy, with close to $100 million in funding from the Abu Dhabi Investment Office. The project was codenamed “Revenge Studios” and linked to an Embracer Group subsidiary, which holds the rights to Lord of the Rings games.

Now, a ResetEra post by user hiberner toujours has added a new name to the mix. Polish industry veteran Ryszard Chojnowski, a 27-year veteran and former Witcher project lead, reportedly stated on the Tolkien Polska Podcast that he’d heard from credible sources that it’s Warhorse Studios developing the game. Chojnowski acknowledged hearing the rumour months ago but admitted he initially dismissed it.
Warhorse is owned by Embracer Group, which makes the connection plausible on paper. That said, this remains unconfirmed speculation. Chojnowski himself flagged it as secondhand, and no official announcement has been made.

If true, it’d be a fascinating pivot for a studio that’s spent years perfecting medieval Bohemia. Fingers crossed they do Middle-earth justice.
