Under the Island, a charming 2D action RPG with pixel art and ’90s vibes, is officially heading to consoles. Top Hat Studios and Slime King Games confirmed that the game will release on PlayStation 5, Xbox, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch, alongside the already announced PC (Steam) version. The release date? Still under wraps.

This game wears its nostalgia on its sleeve. If you ever woke up early as a kid just to get a head start on your favourite RPGs, Under the Island is going to feel like home. You play as Nia, a brave newcomer to Seashell Island, who quickly finds herself in deep trouble, literally. The island is sinking, and it’s up to you (with some help from not-so-friendly local Avocado) to stop it.

Expect puzzle solving, monster battling, and loads of exploration across at least six biomes that shift with day/night and weather. You’ll uncover ancient secrets, befriend weird animals, and bicker with talking vegetables. Yes, there’s a vomiting eggplant, and yes, it can hurt you.

The world reacts to how you play, with different encounters depending on the path you take. Whether you’re navigating sentient greenhouses or dodging saws in chaotic lumber mills, the island is packed with loot, mysteries, and stories to stumble into.

No release date yet, but Under the Island is shaping up to be one of those games you’ll want to get lost in one bush, cave, and ravine at a time.

Follow the game on Steam for updates, or wishlist it if you’re already sold.
