I do love a good set of earbuds, especially wireless ones! After the rise of the AirPod, we’ve seen a swathe of contenders in the market. Some good and some bad as always. I have to say though, that the UGREEN HiTune X6 Earbuds fall very nicely on the “Good” side of that discussion.
Having never come across the brand before, I jumped at the opportunity to get a test unit for review, and honestly, I’m really pleased that I did.
Look
Well, UGREEN got it right straight out of the gates here. The packaging was minimal (less waste) but clean, well-designed and nestled the earbuds and the charging case nicely and securely.
The box design isn’t what we’re here for, but it’s always worth a look. Especially when the UGREEN branding has been done nicely, it’s worth giving it a nod.
The UGREEN HiTune X6 earbuds look decent! The offset ear stalk element gives them a design I’ve not really seen in wireless earbuds. What the design does, too, is give you a more ergonomic fit (I’ll come to that later!). The UGREEN HiTune X6 look sleek and modern and seem to be more aesthetically pleasing when in-ear, too.
The HiTune X6 charging case is standard charging-fare, but it’s nicely coloured and does the job. Round, smooth to touch and store in your pocket. Lovely.
Audio
When we’re looking at HiTune X6 earbuds, the look and feel of them is important. But the audio is the most important part. Are you shelling out on earbuds to look nice, or to get some nice-sounding audio?
UGREEN has you covered!
The UGREEN HiTune X6 Earbuds are excellent when it comes to your everyday sounds. Music is especially showcased in your ears, whilst podcasts sometimes don’t benefit from some of the technology UGREEN are putting out there.
As a rule, I play the same playlist of songs and commit a good hour or so to play through it and listen for all the sounds on offer. With songs I know so well, I get to listen for each instrument part, take in those moments that I’ve grown to love over years and years.
The HiTune X6 earbuds have lovely and rich bass, highlighting some of the finer basslines in the background of songs. Treble soars, too. Giving you a balanced, but rich sound. Those mid-range guitars thrown into the back of a mix often get missed, but you can hear things as clear as day here. It’s a great experience for such a humble earbud!
One major point to note is that the UGREEN HiTune X6 Earbuds can get properly loud, too. Something that a lot of earbuds seem to somehow fall short on. This could be phone software-driven, too. But the same songs in the same scenarios were just clearer and easier to hear. Awesome work!
Part of my standard test is the “daily life” test. I go for walks, I wear them and listen to songs and podcasts whilst I do things around the house, too. What background sounds will interfere? Will hoovering mean that loud isn’t loud enough? Largely fine in this arena, I’ve found UGREEN to really deliver.
With built-in Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), you’re able to drown out the sounds of that background in life! I have to say that ANC in earbuds is a tough one because if you don’t have them in perfectly, you’re mitigating the benefit of the sounds being cancelled out.
The HiTune X6 Earbuds didn’t deliver with ANC how I’d hoped. I found a lot of noise not actively being blocked. This is generally fine because I like to have an awareness of what’s going on around me, but in the gym when the music blaring out of their system, I want to zone out, and it didn’t quite do it for me.
Microphone
The microphone is surprisingly decent considering the size of the earbuds.
I’ve made a few calls, sat with them tethered to my work laptop and done some Microsoft Teams meetings with them, too.
Not really a selling feature of the UGREEN earbuds, but a notable mention of a little microphone that pulls its weight with what appears to be minimum effort. Great work here!
Build & Comfort
I’ve already talked about the ergonomic fit, and let me tell you, they fit so nicely, this is easily the comfiest pair of earbuds that I’ve ever worn.
Because of the angle that the design has put the in-ear element, at. They just sit so naturally. You don’t feel like you have to force them into your ear to try and make them stay in. The UGREEN HiTune X6 earbuds don’t need much messing about to become comfortably nestled into your ears.
Because they’re so nicely designed, you can wear them for hours without really noticing. I’ve found a new pair of daily drivers in these. It’s like I found an ear soulmate. They fit, the stay, they’re comfy and I love that.
In terms of build. The buds are a smooth, soft plastic, the rubber earbuds a soft and everything is just pure comfort.
Touch controls on each earbud are effective and importantly aren’t a hassle. Only too often have I found myself turning earbuds off and then back on to reset whatever I’d done by accident. Not with the UGREEN X6! It’s been consistent in all of my use, and there’s a lot to be said for something being so consistent and reliable.
Overall
I’ve reviewed a fair share of headsets and earbuds over the past few years, and it often takes a lot to get me excited, especially by something so small. The UGREEN HiTune X6 earbuds are a little bit special though. Delivering comfort, style and solid audio, they’re excellent value at £55.99. But you can actually get them much cheaper right now, at £34.99 on Amazon after having already been reduced in price, with an additional £15 voucher available to redeem on the item page.
Active Noise Cancellation needs a bit of work, especially when you just have a podcast going and people talking isn’t necessarily filling out all of the audible spheres in your head. For the price, it’s an acceptable compromise considering everything else. Great to just pop in and mooch about. I wear these daily and will do so for as long as they stay alive with me!
