Psychic Software has unveiled the latest demo for The Necromancer’s Tale, a gothic, narrative-driven RPG now available to try on PC via Steam. Officially launched today at 2 PM BST, this updated demo gives players their first hands-on taste of what it means to wield forbidden magic in a world steeped in political unrest and supernatural horror.
Set in an alternate 18th-century Italy, The Necromancer’s Tale places you in the shoes of a minor noble whose life takes a dark turn into the arcane. Inspired by Disco Elysium and Pillars of Eternity, the game is more than just an RPG—it’s an exploration of the human soul when faced with the lure of absolute power. The story spans over 400,000 words, featuring more than 180 NPCs and a trust-based faction system where every decision echoes through your journey.
“Necromancy isn’t just a mechanic here—it’s the soul of the game,” said Game Director Sam Redfern, alongside Marketing Director Kirsty Halloran. “We want players to truly feel the weight of every ritual, every choice, every ally turned enemy through the slow corruption of power.”
The demo features the opening chapters of the full game along with an all-new Dungeon Crawl experience. Expect turn-based tactical combat (with an optional auto-resolve system for story-focused players), deeply branching dialogue, espionage, faction manipulation, and a dense world built on historical realism with Lovecraftian undertones.

The Necromancer’s Tale key features
- Master necromancy through rituals, corpse reanimation, and spirit communication
- Build alliances and make enemies through dialogue and dark choices
- Explore a grim world of political decay, scientific heresy, and occult mysteries
- Command undead minions in tactical battles, or skip combat to focus on story
- Expect a 25–50 hour campaign full of secrets, hidden dungeons, and moral ambiguity
With the demo now live, players can begin their journey into the shadows and uncover the secrets buried beneath the noble façade of 18th-century Italy. Whether you’re a fan of twisted narratives or just eager to wield unholy powers, The Necromancer’s Tale is shaping up to be one of the most unique indie RPGs of the year.
