The Division 2: Battle for Brooklyn is here!

“It’s been a while, Agent”. That’s basically what I heard in my head as I booted up The Division 2 for the first time in a long time. Actually realising I’d never played it on PC, only on Xbox One. I have no save I can use, but I don’t care. It feels good to be back, and it’s exciting because as of 27th May, the Battle for Brooklyn DLC is here.

Here’s a quick breakdown of what’s out now, and a look at Year 7 (yep, 7!) of The Division 2.

The Division 2 - Back to it

Battle for Brooklyn

This critical new chapter in The Division 2 saga picks up directly after the events of the Warlords of New York expansion, making its completion a likely prerequisite for agents eager to jump into the Brooklyn conflict.

Players will confront the resurgence of the Cleaners and Rikers factions, now wielding the terrifying “Purple Flame” as a deadly new weapon.

To combat these escalating threats, agents will gain access to a reimagined Smart Cover skill and can acquire the exclusive Catalyst Exotic Mask, offering new tactical options on the battlefield.

This new expansion promises to immerse players in a fresh, autumnal Brooklyn, introducing both familiar and uncharted territories.

For dedicated agents who own the Gold or Ultimate editions of the core The Division 2 game, the “Battle for Brooklyn” DLC is available at no additional cost, ensuring immediate access to the unfolding crisis.

Year 7?!

Beyond the immediate content of the “Battle For Brooklyn” DLC, Ubisoft also shared insights into the broader Year 7 updates for The Division 2.

These updates are designed to enhance the overall player experience, focusing on smoother onboarding for new agents, deepening the endgame content, and solidifying the seasonal structure.

So, as an essentially new player to The Division 2, I’m onboarding myself and seeing how it feels compared to when I went through the campaign a few years ago.

I’ve always remembered The Division and The Division 2 fondly, and it’s great to feel like there’s a proper reason to go back.

7 years. Where has the time gone? Ubisoft are celebrating this with a free weekend this weekend, too. Again, helping to bring players back and see what they’ve been missing.

Off we go

I could have sworn I bought the Gold edition of The Division 2, but the DLC is showing as available to purchase. Gutted. However, it’s £12.99 and actually, because I’m onboarding again, and actually starting with the previous expansion, Warlords of New York. I don’t feel too badly done to.

This might be a chance to get the old gang back together for some more third-person cover shooter action, and I’m honestly excited.

I’m not sure if we can dive straight into the new DLC anyway. But I’ll take quality of life and general improvements for the time being.

With the free weekend, the new DLC, and the game coming to Game Pass. It feels like there’s a concerted effort to bring players back, and hopefully keep them there. I’ve been in lobbies full of people, still. So I think there’s some life left in the game, certainly until The Division 3.

Hopefully, we can report on the content of the expansion soon. Until then, I’d expect some focus on what it’s like to play The Division 2 in 2025 and how it feels 7 years into its life. Not many games stay alive this long, so massive credit to Ubisoft for not only keeping it going, but working on it and putting out the new Battle for Brooklyn expansion.
