Top Hat Studios is stepping in to publish The Backworld, a turn-based horror RPG from Numor Games, set to launch in Q1 2026 for PC via Steam and undisclosed consoles. It’s a surreal, story-heavy trip into chaos, and it looks like it’s going to be a wild one.

Slip through cracks in reality into The Backworld, a twisted place where cosmic horror bleeds into sci-fi and fantasy. You’ll be gliding across darkness on a hoverboard one minute, then soul-absorbing a dead god the next. The game doesn’t hold your hand, you choose how to survive.

Combat is turn-based, but survival goes beyond fighting. You can sneak past enemies, use diplomacy, or take a direct approach. The world is nonlinear, packed with dimensions that shift from creepy horror to familiar hometown streets.

As you travel, you’ll unlock both combat and movement abilities. The hoverboard’s just the start—items like knives can cause bleeding effects in battle, and companions come with unique mechanics. Think wizards with mana or robots running on energy. And yes, you can collect pets too.

Your choices shape the story. You and your crew aren’t just surviving, you’re trying to stop the collapse of reality itself.

How would you like to play? You have a few options to choose from:

  • Explorer mode for story-focused chills.
  • Adventurer for a balanced mix of horror and RPG.
  • Survivor, if you’re brave enough to handle perma-death.

The Backworld drops in Q1 2026. Wishlist it on Steam.
