11 bit studios, known for This War of Mine and Frostpunk, has officially announced the release date for its next emotionally-charged project. The Alters will launch on June 13, 2025, and it’s coming to PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox, and day one on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass.

Set in a harsh, alien world, The Alters follows Jan Dolski, a lone worker stranded on a deadly planet. With time running out and the sun threatening to burn everything in its path, Jan’s only way to survive is by creating alternate versions of himself—called “Alters”—each shaped by different life choices he could have made.
These Alters aren’t just clones. Each one reflects a version of Jan who chose a different path—whether it’s the Jan who stayed with his high school love, or the one who walked away. Every Alter brings a unique skillset and personality to the table, but with that also comes emotional tension, conflict, and difficult decisions. In short, The Alters is a game about survival, but one that forces you to confront yourself, again and again.
But survival won’t be easy. As seen in the new trailer revealed during the 2025 Triple-I Initiative showcase, the planet itself is full of strange, dangerous biomes. Gravity-defying rock formations, shifting anomalies, and invisible threats push players to approach each expedition with caution. Radiation, time rifts, and fatal environmental hazards make the clock a constant enemy—and exploring at night is a risk you may not come back from.
Gameplay-wise, expect a mix of survival mechanics, base-building, resource management, and narrative-driven exploration. You’ll need to maintain your mobile base, manage relationships with your Alters, and make time-sensitive decisions that will impact the story and your chances of making it out alive.
The Alters is shaping up to be a thought-provoking and atmospheric experience, asking the age-old question—what if you had chosen differently? It’s a story-driven survival game where your biggest challenge isn’t the world outside… it’s the many versions of yourself inside.
