Aurogon Shanghai has announced Swords of Legends, a new action RPG powered by Unreal Engine 5. At first glance, it feels like the spiritual twin of Black Myth: Wukong, and its first gameplay trailer already has people talking.
Swords of Legends trailer
This isn’t a brand-new IP. Swords of Legends is the official sequel to the GuJian single-player series. The story continues where the older games left off, expanding its universe with fresh characters, legends, and mysteries to uncover. It’s building on its roots while also reaching for something bigger.

The game started development back in 2021. By early 2024, the studio had secured investment, growing the team and moving into full production. So far, it’s been around two years of focused development.
One of the most striking things is how it’s designed. The devs aren’t going for a Soulslike or a massive open world. Instead, it uses a “wide linear” approach. That means you’ll have freedom to explore, but the story keeps you on track. It blends open adventure with clear progression, all told through cinematic, movie-like cutscenes.

Combat looks sharp, with dodges, blocks, and mini-boss battles giving it a familiar flavour. The art style and gameplay hint at Soulslike inspiration, but the studio insists that story comes first. That balance could set it apart.
Don’t expect it soon, though. There’s no release date, and 2028 feels like the earliest possible window. Still, this might be the next big Chinese RPG to watch after Wukong.
