Sword of the Sea, the atmospheric surfing adventure from Giant Squid, is launching on 19 August for PS5, Steam, and Epic Games Store. Even better, it’ll be available on the PlayStation Plus Game Catalogue at launch.

Coming from the creators of ABZÛ, The Pathless, and Journey, this is another beautiful and meditative experience shaped around movement and emotion.

Ride the waves of a lost world

You play as the Wraith, brought back to life in a forgotten Necropolis. Armed with the Hoversword, a hybrid of skateboard, snowboard, and surfboard, you’ll ride waves of sand, carve through ruins, and explore a world that moves like the sea.

Momentum is everything here. Speed up, catch air, and pull off flips and tricks as you shred through halfpipes, ramps, and wall rides in a fluid rhythm. It’s all about flow fast when you want it, peaceful when you need it.

A spiritual journey beneath the dunes

The landscapes are vast and ever-moving. Deserts ripple like tides, glaciers glisten, and ruins hold echoes of a lost civilisation. As you explore, you’ll uncover the hidden sea beneath the land and bring it back to life along with shoals of magical sea creatures.

But not all is calm. There’s something dark lurking under the waves.

With direction by Matt Nava and music from Austin Wintory, Sword of the Sea carries the same visual and emotional depth as Journey, crafted by the same creative team.

Launching on 19 August, Sword of the Sea will be playable on PlayStation 5, Steam, and Epic Games Store, and included in the PlayStation Plus Game Catalogue on day one.
