1047 Games has officially announced that Splitgate 2 will open its doors for a free open beta starting May 22. Available on PS4, PS5, Xbox, and PC via both Steam and Epic Games, the new beta gives players a chance to experience the portal-powered shooter months ahead of its full release, which is expected sometime in 2025.

Splitgate 2 open beta trailer

Just like the original Splitgate, Splitgate 2 will let players bend the rules of FPS combat by portaling across maps to flank enemies or escape firefights. But this time around, 1047 Games is taking things up a notch. The beta will feature over 25 weapons, more than 10 game modes, and a bold new feature: “infinite” maps. While the devs haven’t fully explained how this works yet, it looks like we’re getting some form of procedurally generated maps—possibly using a tile-based system to ensure every match feels fresh.

There’s also a strong hint that players will be able to create and edit their own maps, which could be a huge win for the custom games community.

The trailer shows off everything from high-speed gunplay to intense, team-based objectives. You’ll still be able to soar through the air, teleport through walls, and land mid-air kills with deadly precision—classic Splitgate action. But Splitgate 2 is introducing Multi-Team Mayhem, a new 24-player mode that throws multiple squads into large-scale arenas for chaotic, fast-paced battles. It’s shaping up to be one of the biggest changes to the formula, promising a totally different flavour of portal warfare.

As you gear up for the beta, expect everything you love about Splitgate, just faster, louder, and with a few extra twists. Portal flanks, high-flying kills, and all-out warfare across maps that never look the same twice, this is the Splitgate future.
