Splitgate 2 launched on 6 June 2025. It wasn’t ready. Now it’s going back to beta. The game will be rebuilt and re-released in early 2026.
1047 Games made the call after weeks of criticism. Players said the game felt rushed. The studio agrees.
“We launched too early. We rushed features. We made mistakes,” said co-founders Ian Proulx and Nicholas Bagamian in a statement.

The post says they’re rebuilding key parts of the game. That includes:
- A full progression overhaul
- More portals added to maps
- Classic modes returning
- Monetisation being simplified
Splitgate 2 will stay playable during this time. Chapter 3 is still coming. But the focus is now on fixing the game for its 2026 return.

Layoffs and Splitgate 2 servers shutdown
Meanwhile, 1047 Games is laying off 45 more people. To cut costs, they’re shutting down servers for the original Splitgate in a month.
“It’s cost us hundreds of thousands of dollars over the past couple of years,” the team said. “We have to prioritise our team.”
They might add offline or peer-to-peer options for Splitgate 1 fans, but nothing is confirmed.
The team says the new Splitgate 2 will include a mode that brings back the feel of the original.
“We’ve made mistakes, but we aren’t giving up. We love this game. We love this community,” the statement ends.
The studio promised to “make FPS great again.” But that confidence didn’t match reality.
Now, Splitgate 2 is getting a full restart. But after everything that’s happened, will anyone still be waiting?
