Sony has officially introduced the WH-1000XM6, the latest in its award-winning 1000X series of wireless noise-cancelling headphones. Designed for audiophiles, travellers, professionals, and casual music fans alike, the WH-1000XM6 brings major improvements in noise cancellation, sound quality, comfort, and smart features, raising the bar once again in the premium headphone market.

Real-time noise cancelling powered by 12 microphones

The WH-1000XM6 introduces a new level of noise cancelling with the upgraded HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN3, which is seven times faster than the previous version. It uses a 12-microphone system—50% more than the WH-1000XM5—to adapt to your surroundings in real time. Whether you’re commuting, working, or travelling, the headphones block out background noise more effectively than ever before.

The headphones also feature the new Adaptive NC Optimiser, which adjusts noise-cancelling performance based on external noise and even air pressure. The result? A seamless and undisturbed listening experience wherever you go.

Premium sound, tuned by legendary mastering engineers

Developed in collaboration with Grammy-winning and Grammy-nominated engineers from top studios like Sterling Sound, Battery Studios, and Coast Mastering, the WH-1000XM6 delivers music the way artists and producers intended. With contributions from Randy Merrill, Chris Gehringer, Mike Piacentini, and Michael Romanowski, Sony ensures every detail—emotion, energy, and engineering choices—are preserved with studio-level precision.

The headphones also come with support for High-Resolution Audio and High-Resolution Audio Wireless, thanks to LDAC. Combined with Edge-AI and DSEE Extreme, even compressed music files sound rich and full again.

Ultra-clear call quality and smart features

Sony’s AI-powered beamforming technology uses six microphones to isolate your voice and reduce background noise. Whether you’re taking calls in a noisy café or on a busy street, your voice stays clear and crisp. The built-in mute button offers quick control during calls.

For movie fans, the WH-1000XM6 includes 360 Reality Audio Upmix for Cinema, transforming stereo sound into a spatial experience. Gamers can enjoy the Game EQ mode, optimised with insights from Sony’s INZONE series to deliver better positional sound in FPS titles.

Redesigned for all-day comfort and everyday use

The WH-1000XM6 keeps the iconic design of the 1000X series but now features a wider, softer headband made from vegan leather. The asymmetrical design helps you instantly identify the correct side, and the stretchable earpads ensure a secure yet pressure-free fit.

The headphones also come with easy-to-use tactile buttons and a responsive touch panel for controlling volume, playback, and ambient sound modes.

Sony’s foldable design has also been upgraded. The folding mechanism is now made using advanced metal injection, making it more durable while still easy to fold and store. The carrying case has been redesigned with a magnetic closure for faster access.

Smarter listening with Scene-based AI

Sony introduces Scene-based Listening, a new feature that uses sensors and location data to automatically adjust your audio settings. Whether you’re walking, sitting, or commuting, the headphones adapt playback and noise-cancelling levels to fit your activity.

Quick Access lets you start music playback instantly, and seamless support is available for top music apps, including Spotify Tap, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and YouTube Music.

Built for the future: LE Audio, fast charging and eco-friendly design

The WH-1000XM6 is ready for LE Audio, offering ultra-low latency for smooth gaming and broadcasts with Auracast support. Multi-Point and Auto Switch features make it easy to switch between your devices without hassle.

The battery lasts all day, and when it runs low, a 3-minute quick charge gives up to 3 hours of listening time. You can even keep listening while charging via USB.

Sony also continues its push towards sustainability. The packaging of the WH-1000XM6 is made from 100% paper, using Original Blended Material—a mix of bamboo, sugarcane fibres, and recycled paper.
