SanDisk has announced its next-generation portable SSD lineup, bringing faster speeds, better durability, and more storage options for today’s growing data needs. The new range is made to handle large files, creative work, and AI-based content, while still being easy to use for daily backups and personal data.
The updated portfolio includes three models: the Portable SanDisk SSD, the SanDisk Extreme SSD, and the SanDisk Extreme PRO Portable SSD. Each model targets a different type of user, from students and office workers to full-time creative professionals. Compared to older models, the new drives offer almost double the speed and stronger protection for use at home or on the move.
The SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD is aimed at users who work with photos and videos. It offers read speeds of up to 2,000 MB/s, which helps move large files very quickly. For example, users can transfer around 1,000 high-quality photos in less than a minute. This model will be available in 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB sizes, with a smaller 500 GB option planned for later.

For users who need more speed or simple daily storage, the new SanDisk portable SSD range covers all needs in one lineup. The SanDisk Extreme PRO Portable SSD is made for heavy work like high-resolution video editing and multi-stream projects, offering speeds of up to 4,000 MB/s and coming in 2 TB, 4 TB, and even 8 TB options for serious creative use.
On the other hand, the standard SanDisk SSD is designed for everyday tasks such as file backups, photo storage, and personal data, with read speeds of up to 1,000 MB/s in a small and easy-to-carry design that suits students, families, and office users. All models are built to last, with the basic Portable SSD supporting drops of up to two metres, while the Extreme and Extreme PRO versions can survive drops of up to three metres, offer IP65 water and dust resistance, and include password protection with 256-bit AES hardware encryption to keep data secure.
SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD availability and price
The SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD is available now, starting at $259.99 for the 1 TB version, and comes with a five-year limited warranty. The Extreme PRO SSD and the standard Portable SSD are expected to launch in the second half of 2026, with warranty periods of five years and three years respectively.
