Jagex has announced RuneScape: Dragonwilds, an open-world survival crafting game set in the RuneScape universe. The game is launching in Early Access for PC via Steam this spring.

A fresh take on RuneScape

In a press release, Jagex CEO Jon Bellamy described Dragonwilds as “an entirely new RuneScape experience” that stays true to the franchise. The game has already gone through closed alpha testing, with the team incorporating community feedback from the start.

Bellamy also added;

“We’ve built an entirely new team filled with industry veterans to ensure Dragonwilds fits naturally into the RuneScape franchise while appealing to both long-time fans and newcomers,”

Set on the forgotten continent of Ashenfall, the new game blends survival mechanics with RPG progression. Players will gather resources, build shelters, and craft weapons to take on the looming threat of dragons, and the ultimate challenge will be slaying the Dragon Queen.

The game offers one-to-four player co-op, allowing adventurers to team up or go solo. Dragonwilds also introduces powerful magic-infused survival mechanics, think conjuring spectral axes for chopping trees or using runes to manipulate the environment.

A world shaped by players

Jagex is making community feedback a core part of development. The game has been in testing since late 2024, and Early Access will help refine its content based on player input. The roadmap will evolve as the game grows, ensuring Dragonwilds is shaped by its players.

With dragons awakening and wild magic spilling across the land, RuneScape: Dragonwilds is setting the stage for an exciting new adventure. The game launches in Early Access this spring. Keep an eye on Steam for updates.
