Riven Crown blends Soulslike challenge with fighting game flair on PC

Intima Leaf has pulled back the veil on Riven Crown, a dark and gritty Soulslike action RPG that adds a surprising twist to fighting game mechanics. Yep, we’re talking super meters, combos, and tactical kicks. It’s heading to PC via Steam, though we’ll have to wait a bit longer for a release date.

Riven Crown kicks off with your character perishing and then ascending to a higher dimension. This isn’t your average afterlife. Here, four ancient civilisations, each twisted by time and divine corruption, have become monstrous echoes of their former selves. Everything’s been warped with their people, their gods, even the land itself. And you? You’re the wildcard dropped into this cursed mess to set things right… or make it worse.

Every death isn’t just a restart, it changes your fate. The curse builds, petrifying your soul. Die too many times, and it’s game over in a very permanent way. But rare items can hold it back, letting you push further into the abyss.

Combat with a twist

This is where things get spicy. Riven Crown takes traditional action RPG elements and throws in a dash of fighting game DNA. Think: blocking high or low, chaining super combos, breaking guards with light kicks, and shoving enemies with heavy ones. There’s even a super meter, because why not go full arcade warrior in a Soulslike?

You’ll also find prisoners across the world—free them, and you can summon them mid-fight to unleash powerful combo attacks. Weapons and armour aren’t just stat sticks either. As you master each one, they become part of you, giving permanent bonuses and abilities that evolve your playstyle.

A cursed world worth exploring

Riven Crown promises a massive, non-linear world full of hidden puzzles, deep lore, and creepy corners. Cities, dungeons, and ancient ruins all weave together into one giant mystery—and if you’re into secrets, keep an eye on their social media. Some clues will only appear there.

There are also statues scattered across the world that boost your “threat level.” Sounds risky, but upping your threat draws out tougher enemies and boss fights—perfect for players who live for challenge.

Riven Crown key features at a glance

  • Supercharged combat with combo systems and ally summons
  • Customisable gear that gains permanent traits as you master them
  • Lore-packed world with puzzles and secrets tied into real-world clues
  • Tactical blocking and kicking, with dual-kick mechanics to crack defences
  • Petrification system, where death feeds a growing curse that must be kept in check
  • Boss fights that push your skills and patience to the limit

Riven Crown - some sort of throne

Riven Crown is still shrouded in mystery, but what we’ve seen so far points to something ambitious, stylish, and potentially punishing in all the right ways.
