Rainbow Six Siege players were in for a treat when they opened their games only to see billions of R6 credits, Alpha Packs, and cosmetic items in their accounts, but were then faced with a wave of “phantom” account bans later on.
Yesterday, Six Siege servers were compromised, and players were credited with billions of in-game currency and items they never unlocked or owned. After a short while, a wave of ban messages rolling out simultaneously created panic within the community. Even streamer accounts and official Ubisoft accounts faced this issue, which created a moment of concern regarding what was happening with the backend systems.
Rainbow Six Siege economy chaos forces Ubisoft into rapid rollback
Ubisoft handled the situation in an admirable way as they addressed it publicly on X, stating that a rollback would happen for all transactions made after 11:00 AM UTC. This effectively undoes all the transactions occurring during the incident; furthermore, the accounts that spent the R6 credits during the issue will not be banned.
They also clarified that the ban ticker had been disabled during a recent update, so any messages popping up on the screen were not authorised by them. However, at the same time, an R6 ShieldGuard ban wave did occur, but it was not related to the currency exploit.

After around an hour of this incident, the game servers and marketplace were shut down to prevent any further damage to the in-game economy. The breach attacked the in-game economy, which is the primary source of revenue for Rainbow Six Siege.
The fact that the marketplace was immediately shuttered suggests that the hacked currency would have caused hyperinflation or a total collapse of the player-to-player trading system if it had been left unchecked.
The community called it a “hack,” but Ubisoft addressed it as an “incident,” which now suggests two possibilities: whether it was an external cyberattack or a database failure. As streamers and even Ubisoft accounts were affected, it could mean that there was a significant backend failure.

For now, the situation seems to be ongoing as Ubisoft has not given any further updates on the matter, so players should wait for an official announcement before accessing the game.
