PlayerUnknown Productions has dropped the open beta for Prologue: Go Wayback on Steam and the Epic Games Store. From PUBG creator Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene, this Rust-inspired survival game is a mixture of hardcore roguelike mechanics with a brutal weather system and machine learning to make every run feel unique.

The open beta runs until the early access launch on PC. Over the last six months, the team tested the game with its Discord community, adding new ways to explore based on feedback.
Now, players can dive into millions of procedurally populated maps, each with rivers, forests, cliffs, and shelters rendered in Unreal Engine 5 using machine learning trained on open-source data.

Go Wayback is set across a vast 64km(square) map based on the Czech Bohemia region, and survival isn’t just about food and resources. Body temperature matters. You’ll need warmer clothes, campfires, and smart planning to endure the cold as you hunt for the mysterious Weather Tower.
According to the studio, Prologue: Go Wayback is also the first step toward Project Artemis, a platform aimed at enabling “massive-scale creation” in future projects.
The open beta is now live. It’s time to bundle up and step into the frost.
