Painkiller is coming back. 3D Realms and Anshar Studios have announced a new take on the cult-classic FPS. It launches on 9 October for PS5, Xbox, and PC via Steam. Digital pre-orders are now available.

Edition details

There are two versions of the game:

  • Standard Edition (£31.99 / $39.99): Includes the Iron Crusade pre-order skin pack. It adds skins for all four characters Ink, Void, Sol, and Roch and six weapons. Console players who buy physical copies also get the Burnished Pride pack with gold skins for those six weapons.
  • Deluxe Edition (£39.99 / $49.99): Includes the Iron Crusade bonus, plus three post-launch DLCs. Each DLC comes with four character skins and six weapon skins.

Classic chaos reborn

Painkiller is fast, aggressive, and filled with a dark style. You’ll fight your way through Purgatory with up to three players. Or go solo if you prefer.

The world is gothic and full of horror. You’ll take down demons, huge bosses, and strange creatures in twisted environments.

You’re a condemned soul. But the Voice of the Creator offers you a chance at redemption. To earn it, you must stop Azazel, a fallen angel planning to invade Earth. His monstrous children, the Nephilim, are waiting.

Painkiller brings co-op mayhem and speed

The game is built for movement. You can dash, jump, and hook across wide maps. Weapons are a mix of old favourites and new tools of destruction.

Use tarot cards to boost your powers. Stack them with teammates to crush enemy waves even faster.

Each of the four playable characters has unique traits. Some focus on power or health. Others on energy or damage. Choose your role and team up for the fight.
