At the Future Games Show: Spring Showcase 2024, Anshar Studios and 3D Realms announced the return of Painkiller, the classic fast-paced FPS, now reimagined with online co-op. Set to launch in Fall 2025 for PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox, this new version brings fresh mechanics while staying true to its brutal, demon-hunting roots.

A new fight for redemption

Once again, players will battle through gothic environments teeming with grotesque horrors. Trapped in Purgatory, you’re condemned for your sins—but the Voice of the Creator offers you a shot at redemption. As a Champion, you must stop the fallen angel Azazel from unleashing his demonic forces upon Earth. Expect relentless waves of enemies, unique demon abilities, and three monstrous Nephilim to take down.

Movement, mayhem, and massive monsters

Painkiller is all about fast-paced combat, and this version cranks up the chaos. You’ll jump, dash, and grapple across vast biomes, wielding a mix of classic and new weapons to shred through waves of enemies. The demon variety is serious—hordes of smaller foes will swarm you, but colossal horrors will keep you on edge.

For added strategy, tarot cards return, letting you boost your abilities and combine powers with teammates to unleash devastating attacks. The game features four playable characters—Ink, Void, Sol, and Roch, each with distinct strengths across energy, health, power, and damage.

No system requirements yet

We still don’t know a lot Anshar Studios and 3D Realms will reveal more details as launch approaches. Until then, one thing is clear: Painkiller is back, and it’s bringing co-op mayhem with it.
