No Rest for the Wicked might skip Xbox at launch due to market issues

No Rest for the Wicked might not come to Xbox right away. The game’s director, Thomas Mahler, said in the official Discord that they’re looking at other platforms first.

“Given current market conditions, we might only release on PlayStation 5 and potentially Nintendo Switch 2 for the time being.”

He later added on X that it’s not final. But supporting PS5 makes more sense right now. The player base is bigger, and it’s better for business.

“We want to support consoles and just looking at the numbers, PS5 makes the most sense at the moment.”

The goal is to release on all major platforms. But the team may not launch them all at once.

No Rest for the Wicked came out in April 2024 as an early access title on PC. Private Division initially published it, but Moon Studios later regained publishing rights.

No Rest for the Wicked skipping Xbox? It’s not surprising

No Rest for the Wicked team has had a rough start. Earlier this year, Mahler asked players to leave positive Steam reviews to fight review bombing. Sales matter more than ever. That’s why they’re focusing on the biggest markets.

PlayStation 5 has a much larger player base than Xbox. Nintendo Switch 2 could also be a hit if it keeps selling fast. Xbox, on the other hand, is shrinking. Many Xbox games now release on PC and even PlayStation. Third-party devs are also pulling back, unless there’s a Game Pass deal. That hasn’t happened here.

It’s an odd twist for the Ori studio, which once relied on Xbox. But right now, the numbers are doing the talking.
