Hello Games has launched the Relics update for No Man’s Sky, introducing palaeontology-inspired mechanics, new enemies, and a community expedition focused on reconstructing ancient life.
No Man’s Sky Relics update trailer
The Relics update lets players unearth unique fossilised bones and assemble them into custom skeletons. These can be displayed in bases, traded with other Travellers, or sold to Fossil Collectors on space stations. The variety of bones includes ribcages, limbs, skulls, and tails, with countless combinations for designing alien species. Fossil trading allows players to swap bones for specific components to refine their creations.

Reanimated stone guardians now protect fossil sites, attacking anyone attempting to disturb the ancient burial grounds. These range from towering statues to swirling storms of animated rock, creating new combat encounters. Skeletal creatures also roam planets where bones can be found, adding eerie new wildlife to explore.

The Relics expedition invites players to join the Galactic Palaeology Society, working together to restore lost creatures and uncover hidden secrets. Completing the expedition unlocks rewards, including a living fossil companion, a unique jetpack, and the Basilisk Crown staff—a fusion of bone and circuitry.

Relics update includes planetary dig sites, fossil-based cooking recipes, and expanded base decoration options. Players can precisely place individual bones for unique displays or use them as skeletal furniture. Interplanetary navigation improvements now allow celestial bodies to be pinned for easier exploration.
Quality-of-life improvements enhance No Man’s Sky’s abandoned mode, streamlining progression in derelict space stations. Upgrade stations have been added, and planetary caches now contain valuable salvage. A new organic Teleport Receiver for living starships has also been introduced.

The update includes optimisations for rendering, physics, and memory management, alongside numerous bug fixes. Players can now enjoy smoother base loading, improved mission UI, and better multiplayer interactions.
No Man’s Sky is available on PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and PC.
