The 2D turn-based strategy game Nightfall Hacker is launching today on Steam!
If you were around the ‘net in the early 2000s, you might remember a browser game that ran on the LEGO website called The Nightfall Incident – now regarded as a cult classic. Nightfall Hacker is a full-featured homage with additional programs, way more levels, and the inclusion of a level editor (watch the trailer for a full breakdown).
Check out the Nightfall Hacker launch trailer below:
Developed by UK studio Teradile, Nightfall Hacker turns white hat hacking into no holds barred, unflinching turn-based strategy skirmishes against malicious software and dangerous payloads. You’re a freelance hacker – someone who lives and dies by code. Making money is easy: All you need to do is to accept jobs, deliver the goods, and get paid. Win enough new clients, and the world is yours – with the upgraded programs that go along with it. Nevertheless, you eventually come to grips with the fact that black hat hackers are up to something nefarious – and it’s up to you to find out!
Back in the day, I was heavily into LEGO’s The Nightfall Incident – a turn-based browser game about hacking on a 2D grid. Although the game was simple, some of the levels required a lot of thought – and the openness allowed you to approach each level in different ways. Years later, after learning to use Godot and looking for a game to make, the answer was obvious: a 2D hacking game with similar mechanics to The Nightfall Incident but improved in every way. The rest, as they say, is history.
