NBA 2K26 is taking a serious step forward with player movement, and it’s all thanks to a major upgrade to ProPlay. But here’s the catch: it’s only coming to PS5, Xbox, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
This year’s ProPlay is being called the “biggest change to movement since 2K21” by 2K. And it’s easy to see why. The upgraded system now powers a dynamic motion engine, using real NBA footage to deliver ultra-realistic animations. You’ll notice the difference in how players plant, cut, and especially when they go airborne.

Jumpshots are also getting a big tune-up. Rhythm Shooting has been revamped for better responsiveness. It’s more skill-based than ever, perfect for those who love mastering the finer mechanics.
There’s more coming on offence, too. New Signature Go-To Post Shots include shimmy floaters, baby hooks, and up-and-unders. You’ll also be able to mix and match advanced layups based on different NBA players’ styles.

Skill-based play is at the centre of everything this year
Layup Timing is now always on. Shot timing will be Green or Miss on higher difficulties. No room for lazy takes this year.
With this upgrade in gameplay, you should expect changes in defence, smoother, more realistic player collisions, and smarter movement across the court.

Another new feature, Quick Protect, lets ball handlers shield against steals. It’s one of many little touches added to bring the game closer to how real NBA matchups play out.
Controls across the board are also refined as 2K says it wants gameplay to feel “intuitive, deliberate, and free-flowing.” Quick reactions and smart choices will be rewarded.
If you’re unsure how to master it all, the new tutorials can help. And for once, intermediate players are getting proper attention, with tutorials designed to help bridge the gap between casual and competitive.

NBA 2K26 launches on 5 September. But remember: all these juicy ProPlay upgrades are only on PC and current-gen consoles.
Preorders are now live, and certain editions will get you on the court a week early, starting 29 August.
