We’re a few days past the release of Monster Hunter Wilds now, and whilst we’ve only had a few hours in, so far. it’s feeling good. Better still, it feels like the most accessible game in the series, yet.
That said, Monster Hunter is a series that takes a bit of effort for it to really click. So, thanks to Capcom, below are some tips for starters and veterans alike. Monster Hunter Wilds is seeing incredibly high concurrent user counts, and if you’re looking to join them, pay attention below.

The basics – for new hunters
Welcome to Monster Hunter Wilds, greenhorns!
So that you can get the most out of your first few hours in the Forbidden Lands, here’s a helpful starter guide that’ll have you slaying, trapping and upgrading in no time.
#1 The hunter’s role
In Monster Hunter Wilds, your job (unsurprisingly) is to hunt wild monsters, helping to keep the ecosystem balanced. By your side, you’ll have your trusty Palico (for healing, buffing and combat support) and Seikret (for travel and supplies), as well as Alma, your Handler. With their support, no quest is too tricky, and no monster too big (some of them are huge).
#2 The monsters
No matter which biome they’re in, which elements they harness, or how enraged they are… every monster is a threat without the right preparation. As you journey through the Forbidden Lands, you’ll encounter increasingly ferocious monsters that have to be taken care of.
Learn their attacks, identify their weaknesses, forge the right weapons and armour, and soon enough you’ll be carving your way through monsters you once thought unstoppable.
#3 Kill, carve, forge, repeat
The Monster Hunter gameplay loop is incredibly satisfying. While your character doesn’t level up in the traditional sense, the armour and weapons you equip absolutely do. By going on expeditions and hunting monsters, you’ll gather materials from their carcasses which you can use to forge more powerful equipment, helping you tackle even bigger monsters… and so the cycle repeats.

New features for Monster Hunter veterans
Welcome to your greatest hunt yet.
Many of you will be a few hours deep already but, for those yet to get started in Monster Hunter Wilds, here are a few brand new features you might like to know about.
#1 A world in motion
Unlike previous titles, all biomes in the Forbidden Lands are fully interconnected: no more returning to base camp after a quest. Hunt seamlessly across deep snow, hostile plains, oily caverns, and thick jungle. But beware of the seasons, they can change everything. the Fallow leaves predators hungry, the Inclemency awakens apex monsters, and the Plenty transforms the land. Learn their ways, seek every advantage.
#2 New weapon mechanics
Every hunter has a main they’ll defend to the death… but now you can equip a secondary weapon on your Seikret, letting you be even more creative and flexible mid-hunt. We’ve also introduced Focus Mode, which lets you line up attacks or guards with the camera’s direction (no more whiffing). It can also help you target the wounds you create in battle, which can be broken with a Focus Strike to deal big damage, send the monster reeling and net you an instant monster part for your trouble.
#3 New features, new creatures
Beyond seasons and weapon mechanics, Monster Hunter Wilds is packed with so many new features to discover. Get around (or flee) on your Seikret, set up a pop-up camp to get your equipment and items in order out in the field, face off against an amazing array of new monsters, team up in a fully revamped multiplayer system, and dive into a world that’s more alive than ever.
