To mark 15 years of the Metro series, 4A Games has made Metro 2033 Redux free to claim on Steam, GOG, and Xbox for the next 48 hours.

Announced via the official Metro account on X (formerly Twitter), the giveaway is part of a wider celebration for the series’ milestone anniversary, which officially took place on March 16, 2025. A short clip accompanied the post, showcasing gameplay from Metro 2033 Redux, the enhanced version of the original Metro 2033 that launched back in 2014.

Unfortunately, PlayStation players are left out of this deal for now. There’s no word yet if Sony’s platform will get its own giveaway, but at least the game – along with the rest of the Metro series – is heavily discounted on the PlayStation Store.

If you’ve never dived into the world of Metro, this is the perfect chance to grab the game that started it all. Built using the Metro: Last Light engine, Redux brings improved visuals, better AI, and gameplay tweaks that make it the definitive version of the first entry in the franchise.

The series has seen several titles over the years, including last year’s Metro: Awakening, a VR prequel exploring the early days of the universe. However, it’s been quite some time since a new mainline entry pushed the story forward.

The good news? Reburn Studio (formerly 4A Games Ukraine) has confirmed a brand new Metro game is in development, with the help of series creator Dmitry Glukhovsky. Sadly, updates have been quiet, and we’re probably a fair distance away from any major reveals.

Until then, grab your free copy of Metro 2033 Redux while the offer lasts – whether you’re on PC or Xbox. It’s live now and will disappear after 48 hours.
