Marathon sales hit 1.2 million but PC players are doing all the heavy lifting

Marathon sales have crossed an estimated 1.2 million copies across all platforms, according to data from Alinea Analytics. It’s a solid start for Bungie, but the breakdown shows a clear trend: PC players are carrying most of the momentum.

Steam alone accounts for around 800K copies, while PS5 sits at roughly 217K and Xbox at 133K. That’s a big gap, and it suggests Marathon is finding its strongest audience on PC right now.

Despite that, engagement is holding up well. The game is pulling between 300K and 480K daily active users, with a peak of 478K during launch weekend. Even now, players keep coming back for runs on Tau Ceti IV, which is a good sign for a live-focused shooter.

Marathon sales show strong PC dominance

A big part of Marathon’s player base comes from Bungie’s existing community. Around 78% of Steam players previously played Destiny 2, with a similar crossover on consoles. There’s even overlap with Halo: The Master Chief Collection players.

That tells a clear story, fans trust Bungie’s style of shooter, even if the wider audience hasn’t fully jumped in yet.

Right now, Marathon isn’t a breakout hit, but it’s not struggling either. The core audience is active, engaged, and sticking around, which might matter more in the long run.
