Bungie has confirmed that Marathon will launch in March 2026. The news comes via a new ViDoc titled Vision of Marathon, which lays out the studio’s refreshed direction for its upcoming extraction shooter.

The developer describes it as a high-stakes PvPvE experience built around tight gunplay, strange sci-fi worldbuilding, and constant risk versus reward. Every run is about knowing when to push and when to extract. Bungie even calls it “gunfight poker”. Proximity chat is now included, letting players form short-term alliances during matches.

The game is set on Tau Ceti IV, a hostile world shaped by storms, decaying corpses, and strong environmental storytelling. Audio also plays a big role, with clear positional cues and a tense, horror-leaning score from composer Ryan Lott.

At launch, the game will feature four major zones, ranging from the beginner-friendly Outer Rim to the endgame Cryo Archive aboard the Marathon ship. Each area has dynamic weather and rare events that can completely change a run.

Loot is a huge focus, with hundreds of mods, implants, and shell types enabling deep build variety. Bungie has also added Rook, a low-risk mode designed to help new players learn without losing gear.

Marathon will launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox for £34.99. All gameplay updates will be included, with no pay-to-win systems.
