Hollow Knight: Silksong has smashed through five million players in just three days. After six years of waiting, Team Cherry’s long-awaited sequel has proven the hype was real.
According to Alinea Insight, the game launched on 4 September and immediately took off. One million players jumped in through Game Pass, while Steam alone accounted for over three million copies sold. That’s an estimated $50 million in revenue in under a week.

Silksong steam sales surge past 3m
Silksong’s numbers dwarf other indie hits of 2025. Schedule 1, Peak, and R.E.P.O. sold a combined 1.4 million copies, but Silksong doubled that total on its own.

The biggest markets on Steam were the US and China, with Russia, Japan, and Brazil also among the top five. On PlayStation, North America led the way with 30% of players, while East Asia and Western Europe each pulled in 14%.
Alinea credits part of the success to Team Cherry’s unusual strategy. After years of silence, the studio revealed the release date just two weeks before launch. The mystery drove speculation at every major gaming showcase, and when the drop finally came, the community rushed in.

Silksong isn’t just a sequel – it’s already one of the biggest indie launches of all time.
