Nightdive Studios and id Software have dropped a surprise for retro FPS fans at QuakeCon 2025. Heretic+Hexen, a remaster collection of the two classic magic-based shooters, is out now on PC, Xbox, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch. No Switch 2 version has been announced.

Xbox players get an extra perk; the collection is on Game Pass for PC and consoles. A GeForce Now release is coming later, with a date to be confirmed. Check out its official launch trailer below.

The remasters include Heretic: Shadow of the Serpent Riders, Hexen: Beyond Heretic, and Hexen: Deathkings of the Dark Citadel. Owners of the original digital versions on the Xbox Store or Steam get a free upgrade.

Two brand-new episodes are also here: Heretic: Faith Renewed and Hexen: Vestiges of Grandeur.

The remasters feature sharper visuals, 4K resolution, and 120FPS support. There’s widescreen support, mod support, accessibility options, and gameplay balancing tweaks. A Vault section offers early concept art and unused sprites for fans who want to dig deeper.

It’s the perfect chance to revisit these DOOM Engine-powered classics or dive in for the first time.
